Step 1

Step 2
Locate the nearest defibrillator

Step 3
Turn on defibrillator and follow commands

Step 4
The defibrillator will visually guide you through fixing the electric shock pads to the patient and administer an electric shock. The defibrillator will only give an electric shock if needed

The defibrillator analyses the patient continually, trying to locate a regular heartbeat and advising if further CPR is required

Do not turn the defibrillator off at any time during CPR. Wait for the paramedics to arrive and they will continue CPR and shock treatment

Step 7
The paramedics stabilise the patient taking them to hospital for further treatment

Step 8
Ensure all used parts such as electrode pads or batteries are replaced or recharged ready for use another time
First Aid Training
Individuals who have had first aid training will be the ideal people to administer CPR and defibrillation. They will have most likely been trained on how to use a defibrillator. Ensure you appoint someone in your workplace to take on this role and keep the training up to date. Ensure all your staff are aware of where the nearest defibrillator is located and whether they need a code to open the box (if situated to the exterior of a building).
